Sir Shane? Does It Have A Ring To It?
Posted by Joss Tuesday 22 January, 2008 03:02 PM
Reports suggest that UK prime minister Gordon Brown called for honours to be awarded to leading cricketers from India and other Commonwealth countries. You know what this means for Australia don't you?
It means that we could have the following possibilities:
- Sir Glenn McGrath
- Sir Stephen Waugh
- Sir Shane Keith Warne
Have your say. Do cricketers (and sports-people in general) deserve to be knighted?
Comments
SIR SHANE, I should think NOT ... I could think of some other things to call him but not to be knighted. Some sports people could but not ones who have brought dishonour to themselves or their game.

No. I can think of far more deserving people to receive such an honour.

no way... cricketers should not be knighted and be called sir especially shane warne. Give it some one that has contributed in some way to man kind in saving lives not spinning a ball.
Millions are starving and the earth is dying surely there is a candicate in that catagory that is more worthy.

I am the first to acknowledge that he is a good cricketer, but I think a Sir needs to be one who has contributed in more magnanimus ways than a sportsman. Sorry!
