Should the AFL Ban Barry?
Posted by Lisa Shaw Monday 14 April, 2008 06:09 AM

He's A Lovely Boy, Mrs. Hall
I admit, I already think there's altogether too much aggression in football, too much aggro and too little consideration for each other. Yeah yeah I know, call me a girl or call me old-fashioned, whatever, I just do.
But even I couldn't believe what I saw on Saturday night, when in a totally unprovoked, unforeseen, unexpected, unneccessary, unbelievable display of absolute thuggery "it" happened.
They call him "Big Bad Barry". This week they should be calling him "The Defendant"!!
And I believe full credit goes to the Eagles players for the way they handled it incidentally. I couldn't disagree more with the likes of Jason Akermanis suggesting the players should have retaliated in some sort of testosterone-flooded defence of their team-mate. Turning Hall's vile assault on Staker into an all-out brawl wasn’t going to get anyone anywhere.
The Eagles were classy. Barry Hall is not.
How do you think Barry Hall should be dealt with by the Tribunal?
How many weeks should he get?

Okay lets slow down alittle here Barry stuffed up for thirty seconds, yes punish him but what idiot (DEB) 22/4/08 can put 5 years of drug abuse even close to that, Ben Cousins is as bad as it get as a role model. Barry deserved ten weeks yes but seriously don't get carried away on this. He could also be put in a t v and radio commercials explaining to kids how foolish he was not let to slink off and hide.

Mr Barry Hall of Shame is a disgrace to his team and to the game of football. Had their been a curb to hit his head on, Staker could be dead. Why was it treated differently. Additionally Mr Hall's shame punishment shold not run concurrently with his pain punishment. He must be really laughing about that while holidaying with his girlfriend "poor thing"

Isn't is amazing, when an eagle stuffs up, the eastern states are up in arms baying for blood. But as soon as one of "their own" do, they shut up real quick.

I think Mr Hall should hang up his boots. What a poor example he is to the sport. He should be ousted as Ben Cousins has been. No I am not an Eagles supporter either however no-one deserves that treatment. Mr Hall you are a poor sportsman.

Hall is no sportsman, he is an animal and gets away with the same thing all the time - what has he got going with the umpires, are they blind every game?- that is the question?
Why hasn't he been charged with bringing the game into disrepute? He has done more damage to the AFL than what Ben Cousins did

My question is... why haven't the police charged Barry Hall with assult and battery?
It's not like he can deny made an unprovoked attack on another person... he has admitted his own guilt.
Football games are not parliament and don't get "privilege"! He's a football "player" he doesn't deserve immunity from prosecution!
The man is a thug... if he had taken a shot like that in the Perth train station and they had it on tape he would be up on charges quick enough.
He says he is a rising boxer... well buddy boy, boxers as a rule - professional ones... know to keep their mitts inside the ring... you're not making a very good impression on the boxing circuit either!

I cannot say how disgusted I was not only with the way Barry Hall behaved, but also the way in which his actions have been dealt with by the AFL. He should have been sent off the field immediately, his team should have been the one playing with a reduced playing strength and as far as I am concerned nothing, I repeat nothing, can justify the actions of this thug. I used to love watching the AFL and never missed a match - I am certainly re-thinking my weekends viewing if this is what we can expect.

I thought they changed the rules after the 80's & 90's when the punching was fulltime so why do they now get to do it & get a light sentence. BRING IN THE DEATH PENALTY!! LIFE BAN FOR A PUNCH FOR THAT. The local league here would do it so why don't the AFL.

Why hasn't Mr Hall been charged with bringing the game into disrepute? He has done more damage to the AFL than what Ben Cousins did. Ben only hurt himself where Barry has hurt someone else? With one punch a lot of people have lost all respect for Mr Hall including his own team mates.

All I can say is when Halls broken wrist heals, break his ankle to keep him off the field. I love to see the Eagles beaten being a Dockers supporter, but that was ridiculous. Hall is no sportsman, he is an animal. Well done Brent for being twice the man Hall will ever be.

If what Hall did was done in any other sport, he would have been instantly sent off the field and suspended. What makes AFL so different? I think the AFL lets their players get away with too much. Wake up AFL !!!! It's not a sport I would like my kids in !!

Barry Hall deserves minimum of six maximum of eight weeks.
The punch hit the target, but we see similar actions that don't connect weekly, this seems so much worse because it connected!
Thank God Brent Staker is OK!
Let's keep it all in perspective!

Barry Hall is a bully. He should be suspended for a season starting from when he is fit to play.

I STRONGLY FEEL BARRY AND OTHERS WHO DO SOMETHING SO DELIBERATELY AGGRESIVE SHOULD BE INSTANTLY REMOVED FROM THE FIELD FOR THE ENTIRE GAME AND UNTIL DEALT WITH BY THE AFL......A VERY VERY LONG SUSPENSION IS IN ORDER. TOO MANY AFL PLAYERS ARE BEING ALLOWED TO GET AWAY WITH TOO MUCH ON AND OFF THE FIELD LATELY!!!!

has he not brought the great game into disrepute he should be fined and suspended for at least 10 to 12 weeks and sent to anger management

What a wonderful Saturday late afternoon. The whole family sitting enjoying a game of football and eating our food in the lounge room. Barry goes off and punches Staker, we all sit there, no one speaks but as a family we vote to turn over to another channel. Goodbye AFL hello another sport.

Big Diry Barry will he be let off like the 2005 Grand Final.
He should be in the boxing ring and not in the AFL Hope he is given a fair suspension Full Season of 2008 and it was good to see his wrist of the same hand that punched Staker broken.
Posted by Patricia Monday 14 April, 2008 10:14 AM
What barry hell did is totally inexcusable and must he must be punished to the full extent at the tribunal. I hope he is suspended for the rest of the season if he can call it a 'mind blowout' he should be made to see a psychiatrist.
Posted by wce fan Monday 14 April, 2008 09:03 AM
Its not the first time he's hit someone - I suggest he goes to anger management classes and isn't allowed back into AFL until he proves he can play without resorting to his fists, etc.

Barry Hall is a thug plain and simple I think he should be out for the rest of season also i think Staker should press assault charges against him.
