WA leads the way

Posted by Mix 94.5 Monday 7 April, 2008 10:54 AM

It's official. WA leads the way in accumulated speeding fines, reports suggesting that revenue generated by the infringing drivers amounted to $17 million.

Have your say on our Multanova result.

  • Is it because too many of us speed?
  • Or, do you think it's because the operators are placing them in "strategic" positions?
  • Do you believe they are an effective way of curbing speeding on our roads?
  • Would fixed speed cameras make a difference?

Have your say on Multanova fines.

It's not speed that kills it's the sudden stop at the end, funny but true, the truth is most people can't drive at speed they think they can, hence the sudden stop.
Please another truth cameras are for making money if they were to help with accidents they would reduce waiting time at hospitals and provide more ambulances. the rules are simple (they suit our pollies) the bulls&%t is laid on thick (this is our pollies mandate) and after all this look no change. Get over it.

I don't think the cameras are doing a lot as there seems to be a lot of cars being ceased under the hoon laws daily and the accidents are still happening daily. I believe that it is just another way of hitting the poor tax payer making more money for the government . I guess now they need to find the money for a stupid ferris wheel that we don't need just like the bell tower. Good on you! Maybe money spent on educating drivers would be a better option.

It's the speed on the ramps to join the freeway traffic that frightens me. Most of these drivers are not aware that they have to adjust their speed and fit in with the motorists already on the freeway. NOT barge in regardless expecting people to get out of their way while they cut us up. Perth drivers are the worst in the world.

When I first arrived in Perth I hired a car to go to a house in Jandakot. I had a map and set off from Victoria Park at 4.00 pm I did not get there until 7.30 pm. Why? The dirth of signage.

The other day I coped a speeding fine. For travelling through a school zone at greater than 40 km/h. Why? I turned out of a side street with no warnings, no signage, no road markings onto a main road and did not see any other signage until I was nearly on top of the school, by then I was flashed.

All signage be it speed, directions, locations in the Perth area is generally bad and in some cases illogical.

Have a look at the end of the graham farmer freeway tunnel heading North. The way the signs are you would think your first left out of the tunnel goes to Subiaco not to the Southern Freeway.

Try driving around Perth as a stranger and you will start to see what I am talking about.

The reason the government makes so much money off us poor fools is that we are too impatient and too stupid to realize that the guy coming the other way flashing his headlights was telling us that there was a camera ahead not just being some brain dead moron that we thought he was. Slow down everyone and take a deep breath otherwise keep reaching to your back pocket for your wallet. Keep up the good work impatient people, you're paying my kids education.

Its because that's all that WA has to offer. Fixed speed cameras and 'get in lane' signs are desperately needed. Everyone gets in the wrong lane and then expects to 'jump' in the lane that they want at the last minute thus causing accidents. This happens all the time but there is no deterrent.

I think fixed speed cameras will make a difference but what they need to do is have one speed camera and then a second one 5 meters down the road and they need to have a time thing on them so that when you go past the first speed camera the second speed camera should know what time you should get to the second one and if you get there too fast it get's ya. That's what they have in Sydney and they need to bring it here. The same how the red light cameras should also act as a speed camera.

Jason, are sure when you say you were speeding, it was whilst driving a car?

I'm glad they don't put speed cameras in King's Park very often. Given how poorly sign posted the different areas are I end up racing around there like a little demon! I bring Rally Australia to King's Park everyday. Did I mention how poor the signage is!

Speed cameras are placed in areas where speeding doesn't present a huge issue such as the freeway, good roads, lots of lanes, good view. If revenue is not the purpose put them in the many blackspots around the city.

you bet speed is a problem just have a look at the mob up the road

$hit, wrong topic

Speed Doesn't cuase the accidents, it's the way idiots drive, speed camera are just the easy way out for the police, what about all the other road rules that people don't obey, indicating, driving without lights, not keeping left in areas with a limit over 80k's. These things actually cause frustration and that leads to accidents, if speed was the only and main cause then the German population would be rapidly decreasing!!

I see too many multanovas at prime spots for capturing drivers coming down from say the freeway to a 60 zone. Big open road, no danger... The government needs all the revenue it can get so they're here to stay
