Cue the topless Benny Hill girls, and let's all Yakety Sax!!

Posted by Lisa Shaw Thursday 1 May, 2008 07:25 AM

All together now : "Daaaa, da,da, dada,dada, da,da, dada,dada, da,da, dada (etc etc..)..

Is it just me?? I haven't been able to get the Benny Hill theme tune out of my head all week. It's like 'Pavlov's dog' - everytime I hear someone say Troy Buswell - off it goes again in my head, loud and from the top. And if it's not that I hear, it's the inane schoolboy giggling of Kelvin Cunnington (remember Kelvin from Fast Forward? The juvenile office dork who turned everything anyone said into a lame double entendre?)

So what do you make of all this Buswell business? .. The bra-snapping, the seat-sniffing, the pony-tail pulling, and the incontinent snickering (think Kelvin Cunnington) every time the House Speaker says "would the honourable member.." (actually I made that last bit up, but who can't picture it!?)

Look, I don't think the guy's behaviour (described this week as uniquely robust, to, pre-teen) makes him a bad person, or incapable of responsibility, but let's get real here, surely it must rule him out of contention for a job that could very possibly see him end up as Premier, and as such, making very grown up decisions on our behalf, as well as representing our state to the rest of the world.

Our standards must surely demand more of anyone we'd be willing to even consider putting that sort of trust in!!!

  • Have your say on Troy Buswell

Do you really think that the old pollies did nothing wrong the only diference between then and know is that the staff that work for them and their friends have no time to wast running off at the mouth for the 3 mins of fame. I would rather have a real person tthat grew up in the real world sure made mistakes as we all have but at least he is not the polished snake oil salesman running around in the labour and some of the libs, go for it troy. And don't forget where you came from.

To get good government you need good opposition - lets face it...we're screwed!

I have been a Labour supporter all my voting life, I have two sons who are voting age and my husband has a family history in the Labour party - I have talked them all around to NOT voting labour at the next election. I would rather vote for chair sniffing, bra strap snapping Buswell any time over the evil trolls in there at the moment. Lets face it, if he has his hand on my bra its out of my pocket - unlike Ripper's!! I HATE Carpenter and all that he stands for, which is NOT what the Labour Party was orginally set up for - the people.

I THINK THAT TROY WAS JUST TRYING TO GET TO THE BOTTOM OF THINGS, AND THE LATEST CARRY ON WITH THE PREMIER AND Ms RAVE ALOT IS JUST HIM TRYING TO KEEP ABREAST OF THINGS

As a fence sitting voter I will not be voting for the liberal OR Labor parties at the upcoming elections. This male, juvenile petty, bullying behaviour has to stop. If the male bastions of both parties will not stop this BULLYING (for that is wht it is) then NEITHER deserve to be elected. As a teacher I spent my life trying to rid bulling from schools and in the workplace. Yet here it is at the highest level of government.

I am actually a member of the Liberal party, and to be completely honest with you, I think his behavior was utterly disgraceful. Part of me wanted Mr. Buswell to be thrown out of the party for deplorable disorderly shenanigans, but the other part of me knows there is no one better in the state party to stand as leader. Unfortunately, I don't even know whether I'll vote for my own party this coming election. Please Liberals, shape up, we need a decent opposition.

I hope there is a follow up blog on your mate Carpenter... I hate both polititions

Yep, okay.....
Let's get real, Troy Buswell hasn't committed any horrible crime, as far as they go, however, we ARE talking about the man who wants to run our state!
This is behaviour more fitting to an (immature) 15yo who wants to be accepted by playing the class clown.
For me, the biggest problem has been his continual denial of any wrong-doing until faced with such proof that he simply can't deny it any more.
Sure we are all guilty of embarrassing behaviour, however most of us aren't seeking a position of such responsibility & power where we would be making decisions that will affect every resident of our great state.
Let's "get real"... would you put this man in charge of your life?? I refuse to accept that we should settle for "the best of a bad bunch". Especially when he can't even be honest & take responsibility for his behaviour.
If my boss had committed any one of Troy's "pranks" he would be without a job very promptly.
I agree with Lisa - cue the Benny Hill girls & music.
I suppose the first thing we could expect from Troy's first term would be a huge relaxation in the sexual harrassment laws!!!!

There is a passage in the bible which says "let hewho is without sin cast the first stone"
Some of these so called politicians should look to their own backyards before casting aspersions on Troy Buswell, personally I don't like the man but the Liberals voted him in as leader of their party so that should rest on their shoulders. .
What happened in the past should stay in the past and stop bringing it up and trying to bring him down.
I bet Charlie Court is turning over in his grave with what is happening to his beloved Liberal Party.
ps I am not a liberal voter.

What is wrong with this place - for gods sake have they nothing better to do ?? We have so many more important issues at hand and all everyone is worried about is a chair sniffing incident. GET REAL PEOPLE !!!!!!!!!!

Posted by sharon lee Wednesday 7 May, 2008 11:53 AM

I think the saddest thing to come from all of this is the fact there is no-one in the party that is seen to be a better option - which screams volumes about the state of the opposition at the moment. I am not pro lib or labour, I just the want the right people representing us, and making decisions on our part.
If the government was to spend as much time looking at policies as they do at each others behaviour we would have the best state in the country. If we redirected the funds spent on jaunties and "fact finding" trips into portfolios that really needed the money, the world would be a better place.
But that is never going to happen. It seems that once you are sworn in to represent the people they then become the last thing on your mind, and it all becomes about what you can get out of the system.
Should Troy Buswell lead the opposition? Probably not, but do we have anyone in politics at the moment with a moral compass and a desire to do the best for the state? No.
So I guess for the time being he is the best of a bad bunch.

I went to Scores in Las Vegas recently, and if it's like the Scores that Kevin Rudd supposedly went to in New York, then he had better be VERY careful about what mud he slings...

Posted by Dan Tuesday 6 May, 2008 04:03 PM

Does anyone seriously believe that this guy would get voted for to become a Premier of this state? Seriously? Can you actually imagine the majority of voters saying "yeah, I'm going to give the seat sniffer a go at running the state". It will never happen. Labor will be in for a million years before the Libs ever get a crack and if the actual party couldn't have figured this out in a room amongst themselves, then none of them should actually be sitting in parliament house, representing us. What d&^kheads.

Posted by Steve Tuesday 6 May, 2008 03:48 PM

Surely there are more important and worthy things to be taking our concern... education, hospitals, health, poverty... I think we should be focusing on the important things like that. You don't like Troy as a person - great use your votes to keep him out when it comes time. The party will get the message. In meantime can we just get over this whole issue and move the focus on to things that are a REAL concern out there - not if he sniffed a chair! All that wasted media attention, when it could be on things that really warrant it.

Posted by Sarah Tuesday 6 May, 2008 02:58 PM

really and truley who cares???? if the guy wants to sniff chairs etc well who gives a f--- there are more important things going on in the world right now , jeepers these things happen all the time and no-one gets hurt, to all the do gooders I simply say" he who has not sinned can throw the first stone" and grow up!!!!

Sorry to burst your bubble Chrissy, but there has been a long line of despicable behaviour within the liberal party leaders. Holt had a very colourful life. Gorton was a drunk and a womaniser. Not to mention Frazer forgeting his trousers after a romp with a pro. But to be fair the libs dont have all the fun labour had Bob Hawke and his long suffering Hazel. Bad behaviour is not a new thing it has been part of our history but we forget when more scanadalous news hits the headlines. Between the lines history is very interesting but it doesn't make it alright just proves that we are all human.

I tink he should be sacked. In my opinion he looks and acts like a pervert. I think his behaviour sucks. He is a male chauvinist PIG!!!!!!!

Posted by SUE Sunday 4 May, 2008 11:57 AM

The awful truth is that bad behaviour is often rewarded....exactly what the Libs are showing .....Out with you now Troy.....

Can you imagine someone like Sir Charles Court, or his son, or past leaders of the liberal party conducting themselves in a manner that Troy Buswell has either in the recent, or distant past - I don't think so. If I am going to respect a person, it doesn't have to be a politician; I want some form of conservatism and manners if they are going to represent the interests of the people of WA. I would not vote for this idiot in a pink fit! Where have all the good guys gone - ones that you can really look up to?

Posted by Chrissy Friday 2 May, 2008 10:31 AM

If Troy Buswell was a 13yr old in High School his antics would get a laugh from all of his peers, but this is the man that hopes to win the faith of WA Electors and show us that he is mentally fit enough to run the State...... ha ha. He need to go back and learn how to play with playdough and share.... and then respect others. We need Men and Women to run our beautiful State that have the major requisite of RESPECT for others.

Posted by Jayne Friday 2 May, 2008 10:07 AM

How can you trust a political party who would support a person who in any other industry would be instantly dismissed and in all reality charged under the sexual discrimination act. If the Liberal party think he is the man to lead them in the next election then the biggest looser is the West Australian public as we do not get an option at the voting booth.

Posted by Keith Friday 2 May, 2008 06:04 AM

isnt he just a "larakin"...a couple of years ago he would have been found extreamly funny. Has he changed??? who knows.
How much more "dirt" will be dugup??He should be brought to task by his peers . I think his family have suffered enough .

Buswell sniffs chairs, snaps bra's, The Labour party is laughing all the way to the ballet box !!! did so many die for this kind of democracy ???

Posted by Bruce Thursday 1 May, 2008 08:26 AM

Seriously, The WA Liberal party have had so much opportunity to make a serious challenge for the government, but they continue to stuff it up.. this being the latest (and lamest) saga yet
