Did Dean Solomon deserve 8 weeks?
Posted by Mix 94.5 Tuesday 15 July, 2008 04:09 PM
News just in that Dean Solomon has received 8 weeks for his late hit on Cameron Ling from the weekend.
It brings us to ask some questions.
- Is it a fair penalty?
- Was his hit worse than Barry Hall's hit on Brent Staker. The tribunal seems to think so, hence the penalty (Barry Hall actually got 10 weeks but had the sentence reduced).
- Should the Dockers re-sign him next year? Is his career over?
Have your say on Dean Solomon and the AFL tribunal.

I think there should be a Solomon fund started by the other AFL players to help Sollys match payments he wont receive.I,m sure theres other players that would of liked to hang one on Ling.Weren't in the position to do it.Well Solly has done it for you other players. How bout helping him financially for doing the deed, you's couldnt.

I'm a dockers supporter and yes it was wrong b ut what you've all forgotten is they are mates do you really think solo really wanted to hurt a mate or just hit him hard and fair? Go figure. He was visibly upset and apologetic for his actions. It all seems like it was more stupid than nasty. Barry on the other hand PUNCHED the man if he had ded would he be charged under the one punch law? Ones footy the other is a punch. DO the maths on that.

I am an Eagles supporter and I think that Solomon was treated harshly. When comparing the hits, Hall hit Staker when he was unaware but at least Ling had the chance to get out the way so I think Ling deserved the elbow but not the injury. The tribunal seems to have double standards and are very inconsistent with their punishment. I also agree both Mooney's & Bartel's hits on Palmer in the light of things of what has happened so far this year were very lucky to escape penalty but hey they are "Geelong" players who seem to be a protected species.

Obviously Stacey is a supporter of king hits. Whilst I too like Sydney I support the game and no way is what Solomon did even in the same league as Hall. Solomon was dealt to harshly at least he had the guts to apologise whereas Hall just wanted to take on everyone. His brain snap must match his IQ. I hope Freo appeal and good luck to them. What would've the tribunal done if Staker was more seriously hurt? These days we have people dying from king hits. I say clean the game by yes penalising the player by money as previously mentioned by Peter, paying their medicals bills as well as loss of game playing money, or perhaps to take them to court by pressing charges....

Yeh I,m an Eagles supporter,I guess if it had of been Staker ,Solly hit it would of gone unnoticed ,I,m sure Solly would of got life if it was Bartell he hit.

Yes I am a Dockers supporter but I'll be the first one to agree that Solly should have been penalised for his actions. Eight weeks - I don't think so. I feel, for eg. Barry Hall's incident was worse than Dean's.
But isn't it amazing how two Geelong players can get filmed doing inappropriate actions on Rhys Palmer but the tribunal says not enough video evidence. I saw it on the TV as I'm sure many others did as well. Jimmy Bartel and Cameron Mooney - count yourselves lucky !!!!!

There is no way that this was worse than the hit from Hall on Staker. While I dont condone what Solomon did, the penalty did not fit the crime. It just proves to me that the Victorians look after their own.
Oh and Harry you must be Victorian or a West Coast supporter and an avid Dockers hater. Its a shame if you are a West Coast supporter because West Australians should stick together.

I was surprised Solomon didn't get more weeks. The hit was off the ball, it was deliberate, certainly not accidental, his eyes were firmly on Cameron Ling and he caused a severe injury. I reckon two weeks for each of those which is 8 weeks and plus he should get the same time that Cameron Ling cannot play for eg, approx 1 month so there it is 12 weeks in all!!
I also believe that in such cases the ofending player should be made to pay medical bills and the players salary for the games they miss. Some might say this is harsh but there are more than just one thug in AFL so it needs to be cleaned up!!

I didnt see the actual incident but I feel equal punishment for equal crime so yes I think Dean Solomon's punishment was a little harsh Rememer the Barry Hall incident
I think the tribunal favours the Victorian teams

yeh i really think solomon was treated very harshly!
fair enuff the hit was late however it was almost an on-ball incident! he can't get more than Big Bad Barry when he was simply going in for a hip-and-shoulder! Hall's hit was way out of line and had no context in the game. I really think that the injury that was caused had a huge emphasis on the final result! Definately NOT fair!

Barry Hall got less for hitting a player off the ball and solomon got 8 for a hit almost on the ball. Not a freo supporter but i would have thought that either barry would have got more or dean would have got less.

Unfortunately with his record, and with a late and dangerous hit, and the resultant fracture to Ling's face, it was a fair result. I'm sorry for Dean, as I feel he has been playing well this year, but you MUST play within the rules.

I thought it deserved 6 weeks , it was stuppid but definately not worse the Big Barry
Posted by Jamie Tuesday 15 July, 2008 05:46 PM
Dan, You have got to be joking? I'm a Sydney Supporter, and Yes Barry Hall deserved the 6 weeks he got but i think staker deserved what he got also... but Dean Solomon Fractured Cameron Lings cheek. I think Dean Solomon should can't his lucky stars that it was only 8 weeks.

How the hell does thug Kerr only get three weeks?
Posted by Sollyfan Tuesday 15 July, 2008 04:48 PM
Sucked in you stupid Dockers
Posted by Harry Tuesday 15 July, 2008 04:27 PM
Are you kidding me? How is his hit worse than Barry Hall's? Yes it was late and dangerous, but i would have thought 6 weeks at the worst.
