News just in. Perth is officially making a bid for the 2018 Commonwealth games. We'd love to hear from you about this.
- Do we have a chance?
- Do we have the facilities? Stadiums, transport, accommodation?
- Would this be a good thing for Perth or not?
Have your say. Let us know what you think?

To be honest I don't think WA needs hold a Commonwealth Games. I don't htink that we have the right facilities and also we already know that our Aussie athletes are heroes do we really need to be reminded? Also with all the money involved with it could really go towards something more important than the Commonwealth Games such as poor people, Animal Cruelty, RSPCA and so on. Surely the Games can be somewhere else such as Adelaide?!

Re: Jennifer Buckley's comment. Australia need not leave the Commonwealth if it becomes a republic, and as far as I know there have been no suggestions that it should do so. In fact, most of the nations that compete in the Commonwealth Games are either republics or have their own monarchies.

Lark Hill is a great area. It has everything they would need and would bring a great deal of tourism to the area.

Yep! time to have a holiday for two weeks, I am so over the Olympics and now we have to put up with the commonwealth games as well, what a waste of money all that money could help the staarvinf people in this world not mention, more hospitals, schools, police and nurses, remember it's all over in 14 days, and then what the only people who get something out of it is the athelets themselves, with all the sponsorships and money thrown at them because they have one a medal, big deal we have heros here in WA which deserve medals more than the athelets, so let's not have the Commonwealth or even the Olympics for that matter, and give the money to where is should go the tax payers who really foot the bloody bill for all this.

Just a thought - we are supposed to be a Republic before then, aren't we!! So what happens then - we won't be part of the Commonwealth

Well first of all I have taken a good look at the infrastructure on the Ground a great deal would have to be done including probably a totally new Athletics stadium for 50000. I am a Canadian who advocates Abuja Nigeria hosts in 2018 as they are officially bidding and have learned the Bidding mistakes of their failed 2014 bid. They have a State of the Art Athletics Dedicated Stadium with Warm Area 100 metres away and a Dedicated Throwing Area Per IAAF rules . A Reminder to all in Perth that Christchurch lost to Edinburgh for the 1970 games and then thru shear determination won the Games bid for 1974 over a former olympic host city by a 36 to 2 margin . That city was MELBOURNE Australia. Adelaide was also on the receiving end of defeat for the 1998 games to Frontier Host Kuala Lumpar. Abuja's National Stadium Complex is a scaled down version of Kuala Lumpar's Commonwealth Games park .
Not against your bid but being fore warned is a favor I pay to you. Good luck to Perth

just a quick one, when you hit the button to play your next song and it starts playing the intro and the radio host are talking through the intro and build up of the song. Is it at all possible we can here a song from start and even to the end in its entirety without talking during it.

Good luck Perth. As a volunteer in Sydney in 2000, I can remember how wonderful it was! Should you get & (I hope that you do!) have a great time!

It will most probably happen as it will cost not make money and all governments seem to think that is a good thing. Money makers are world rally and touring cars and the state gov don't care so this should get the green light. Next JK you idiot fancy complaining about smoking at a sports event, I thought most of the elite athelites would have moved onto harder drugs than that! Seriously great thing lets do it we need some exposure for the best state in Aus.

Just think what that would do for Peth - International standard facilities for OUR future! I do have my doubts that any WA govenment is up to the challenge and I certainly wonder what the rest of the world will think about us - restricted trading hours; a city that sleeps; no smoking in outdoor venues. And fancy the thought of daylight at 4:30am and darkness before dinner time if daylight saving is abolished! Bring on the election so I can ast my vote.

I believe the games would be great for Perth, lets get out of our officail status of dullsveiw, the goverment has the money from the royalties from the mines,if they start to build now we might just have a chance gooo Perth.

A political stunt for the elections. It will take them that long to get off their backsides if other projects are anything to go by.

I think that it is a great idea and I do believe that the infrastructure needed can definitely be put in place in the next ten years.
I do worry what the international visitors will think when they realise that we have restrictive trading hours and everything in the city closes down after 5pm each day. It may just reinforce our"Dullsville" tag with the rest of the world.

Yes Please, I would love to have the commonwealth games here, it would showcase our beautiful city, we last had the commonwealth games back in 1962? I think, when Perry Lakes was built, which needs knocking down & being rebuilding into a new studium, we already have a lot of the studiums in place, cycling, rowing, hockey, at Olympic standards, then perry lakes could be then used as the new Soccer/Rugby stadium after the event, look what Manchester did to there new studium after they had the commonwealth games, it was turned into Man City new Studium, Then we could leave Subiaco Oval for aussie rules only?? So the PM should have a think about that?? Yes let go for it. Go for Gold, so to speak
