Election Advert's.....Are they trying to inform us, or infuriate us??
Posted by Lisa Shaw Wednesday 3 September, 2008 10:46 AM
What do you think of this round of election campaign commercials? I'll tell you what I think.. I think it's pretty much the usual fare they serve up. One part stating the obvious, one part predictable, one part trifling, and vigourously stirred!
How's that one asking you to "Name three things the Carpenter Government has done etc etc..", but it's written across the screen and there's total silence, and it seems to go on....and on.... and, well it seems like forever.
And the other lot's just as guilty, firing back with some 'campaign champagne' of their own, like that one where they edit together different news grabs to make the Opposition Leader look silly. Or the one where they edit together different news grabs to make the Opposition Leader look dopey.. And so on, and so forth.
Look, really, who writes this stuff?? No,really, is this helpful? is it productive? is it informing us, or is it just, quite frankly, insulting us?
Aren't we owed something a little more highbrow? Deciding which box on the ballot to tick this weekend, is after all, quite serious business, and instead of wasting everyone's time (and money) putting out these ad's where they concentrate on disparaging each other for various past indiscretions or failures, shouldn't they be telling us about their own party, and exactly why we should elect to put our faith in them??
Have your say on election advertising. Is it a waste of time and money?

If everyone had a better idea how government is run you would all know that taxpayers money is not spent on advertising. All ads are paid for my each party and by each candidate through various fiundraising schemes. WA does not have any fomr of tax paid advertising unlike the US which does match all funds raised with tax dollars.

Do you know what really gets me, the fact that they don't just send you one vote for the party advert in the mail. I think between myself and my 18 yr we got about twenty of the things.
Do they just forget that they have sent them or that we are so stupid we need constant reminding, and don't get me started regarding the Labour campaign where he tells us about all the areas he is going to spend money. I thought he was already in power and shouldn't he already have been attending to those schools and hospitals etc and if not what has been doing all this time?.

A total waste of time and money. One would hope all their written advertising corresponadance was on recycle paper......umm something to think about all the wasted paper.

WA is a state which should be enjoying the boom we are reportedly having. Why, then, does Perth look like so run down and undeveloped? After travelling extensively for 6 months in Europe and the US and returning here, we find Perth looking small, parochial and embarrassingly boring! Even Adelaide would leave us far behind and THAT's sad!!

If any polititians are reading this, please note that we, your devoted voting public are heart sick of only being addressed prior to any election. Why can neither party actually DO ANYTHING whilst in government. Sorry, but you cannot buy my vote with your false promises

I guess what else can you expect from the class of pollies these days? Apart from lies and deception. None of them are really there for the benefit and growth of our state. It's amazing how much money gets "promissed" for projects at election time that should have been spent during their time in government. Make the hard decisions for the future not just for the next election vote. I say just get on with governing for the benefit of the state, and not themselves!

Went to get my mail yesterday and there were 4 letters addressed to both my husband and myself individually all of it was election material. Not happy it all ended up in the bin!

Not only do we get the bulldust on TV, but we get it in the mail too - that's our money they're spending. It's got to stop. As for me, I know I'm not going to vote for this non-peforming govt we have now..

Actually, for us intelligent citizens it is very informative. If you uneducated folk took notice, we might end up with a decent government.
