What does it take to be A-List, on the H-List .....?

There was an amazing story on Today Tonight this week about that breathtaking Humpback whale nursery at Camden Sound in our far north.
At first I wondered whether it was wise to reveal the location of something that had been going on, unbeknown to most us, quite nicely for quite some time, before realising they were doing it to try to bring attention to just how vulnerable this incredible stretch of coast is.
I was stunned to learn Camden Sound and its surrounding area is not protected, when you consider that right around Perth all manner of derelict dumps are being Heritage Listed quite regularly.. I won't name names, but haven't we all had an 'are you serious’ moment, when another abandoned mill, or disused power station, or some poor unsuspecting homebuyer’s own ‘renovator’s delight’, is curiously chosen.
- Isn't something very wrong with the priorities in this picture??
- Does anyone have any thoughts on what we can all do, to ensure that what really is worthy of conservation moves to the top of the list....
Have your say.

The same thing is happening at Binninup right now. This is a beautiful little town on a beautiful piece of coast which will soon have a dirty big desalination plant.

Unfortunately there is absolutely nothing anyone can do to save this area. I know that sounds very negative but I have been involved in so many "protect the..." and because governments and money are involved there's nothing we can do. Dont get me wrong Im certainly not for sitting on my hands and doing or saying nothing but its fruitless because our people in power just dont care. It really annoys me when I look at the beautiful photo I have hanging in my family room of Hearson's Cove and remembering all the great times we had there and now its ruined by industry for no other reason than someone could make a buck. The all mighty dollar is not all its cracked up to be but most of us will not realise that until its too late and all the good things in life are gone.

I think that a lot of this is to do with political expediency. The coast line is a money maker for a lot of companies and they lobby vigorously to keep the gov of the day from putting any hiderances in place that would cause problems for them down the track. Buildings for the most part are a lot easier to deal with, concidering its very easy to just bring in the bulldozer and accidently knock it over before any one can do anything about it. Call me cynical but thats my thoughts on the matter.
