Ben Cousins
Posted by Mix 94.5 Friday 17 October, 2008 09:31 AM
Reports from Melbourne suggest that someone from the Victorian Police has allegedly talked to the Collingwood Football club about the ex-Eagles captain.
We'd love to hear from you about the state of Ben Cousins.
- If it in fact true, should the police have gotten involved?
- Will he ever escape the controversy and get back to just being a "footballer"?
- Should the Eagles have given him another chance?
Have your say on Ben Cousins.

I am happy for him, I hope he does not let himself or anyone down, he has shown he deserves a second chance

Well Ben the druggie, lets put his name up in lights as a role model for the kids. This is what you have to do in life, and you will be given another chance. How many chances does someone need to get the message that drugs and or in sports is not allowed. Three strikes for testing to drugs in AFL, and someone might be name, what a JOKE. What would happen to another citizen in the same situation, would they be given so many chances. I doubt it.

And so the Ben Cousins' merry-go-round continues !!! Can the media of this state honestly not find anything else to report on other than Ben Cousins? Anyone would think that it's called the State of Ben Cousins...not the State of WA !!! Really....just give it a rest. If he plays for an AFL Club again....that's great....but if he doesn't, could it please just be put to rest ?

Ben was allowed to jump cues get in underage etc..etc by the perth night scene. We helped to build his ego to the extent that he thought he was untouchable. But Collingwoods precious Micky has a lot to answer for. Where was the discipline re off the field behaviour when Ben was the young star who busted his arse at every training to be fitter faster ..... And who showed Kerr and Judd what hard work gets you. They were shown the way to on field greatness by Ben. I wish him well in his recovery but just go and play WAFL for a year and prove yourself to the AFL

Yep, I was right all along, Ben Cousins will never change, he will always have that look at me I can change attitude, but guess what he can't fool everybody, just by shaving his hair, shows that he is still on the old get up and go lollies, so Ben as some else said SOD OFF!!!
Posted by Rosemarie Tuesday 2 December, 2008 07:06 AM
C'mon Brisbane Lions ....would rather Ben was picked up by a NON Victorian team....
Posted by Sharon Friday 21 November, 2008 03:03 PM
Ben should tell the AFL where to stick there competition, they will never give him a fair go
Posted by Raelene Butterly Wednesday 19 November, 2008 12:11 PM
i hope when ben plays afl again that he helps the team he plays for win a premiership, and all the people who bag him and support that team put up there hands and call themselfs two faced because that is what you will be. Ben is one of the best footy players of all time, Just look at his stats.he is not the only player in the afl to take drugs its just because he was the best and he played for the eagles. Tall poppy syndrome.

Ben Cousins threatens to walk away from AFL. Please Ben just do it and do us all a favour.Stop treating him like he is someone special at the end of the day he is just a person that used to play football nothing more nothing less
Posted by Woody Wednesday 19 November, 2008 05:31 AM
what is the point of dumping on his dealer it will only put a small fish out of buisness and another will take the dealers place.the best thing he has done is stop drugs.
Posted by adrian Monday 17 November, 2008 10:17 AM
Ben was a great player, and he can do it again, but he will only have credibility once he has dumped on his dealer!
Posted by John Staring Sunday 16 November, 2008 11:59 AM
I think the Eagles should give him another go. Yes, He has stuffed up, but so many of us have... give him another chance, he was mis guided and could do with some guidance! Send him to Melbourne and he's lost.

saw a very intresting story on 60 minutes about aussie surfer Mark Occolopo pro sufer to drug abuser and fat bastard to world surfing champion and australian hero. We gave him a chance to fight back so why wont people and the media give Ben the same chance. Hmmm
Posted by adrian Thursday 6 November, 2008 10:32 AM
I think theres a huge opportunity here for Ben to make a positive out of a negative by honestly speaking to the public about opportunity, temptation and the pitfalls of succumbing to the latter. Drugs are socially acceptable on many levels, and most people get into it for fun, not because of peer pressure, and most get out (A) cause they know its a waste of time/life and they want more for themselves or (B) they get caught and are publicly humiliated. If Ben truly got out because A not B then he would benefit publicly and professionally from speaking out, but not a spin-doctored tirade about it, a real honest unscripted talk, that would show his true feelings & his future endeavours and expectations. I think most people would then want to give him a go. Fame did go to his head & it is time to grow up & get real about it, whether or not he can really do this will be very telling about Ben Cousins the man, and about his future possibilities.

Congratulations to Ben for trying extremely hard to overcome this terrible addiction. We shoukd never turn our backs on someone who is recovering from any disease. He has never been convicted of any crime and he has my utmost support to where ever he goes. Go Benny

Who cares, the fame went to his head, grow up ben.

Sod off!

I don't want Ben Cousins at my club (St Kilda). He should give up the game as he is shop soiled goods and start working in drug rehab and see for himself where he could have ended up.
It's bad enough with Michael Gardiner there without Cousins as well. If Grant Thomas was still coach, we wouldn't have taken Gardiner. Thomas knew what was right and wrong and neither of these guys are what the club is about. Eagles - you can keep him. We don't need him.

Well done Steph. You hit the nail on the head. How much crap goes on in Melb. that does not get reported. Simply because it was a West Aussie (Eagle or Docker) the press had a field day. Ben did damage to himself no one else. Maybe if Eagles members voted with their membership the heirachy would change their mind and give him another go. What else would the AFL impose on us. They been thru it all but NOT in Victoria. Survive Ben.
Posted by Ann Tuesday 28 October, 2008 04:54 PM
I would love to see BEN given another go with the Eagles. Ben only hurt him self no one else.Maybe he should have done it over east then no one would have heard about it after a week and he would have just played on like they do.
Posted by steph Sunday 26 October, 2008 09:37 PM
As a eagles supporter i would love to have him back at WCE :) the media need to get off his back and leave him alone!!
Posted by Veronica Friday 24 October, 2008 04:41 PM
He has worked hard to get over his problem, given assurances he will be tested. It is a shame the media don't give him a chance to prove himself. Strange the reporters don't write stories about how hard he has worked to clean up his life - instead they continue to try and drag him down
Posted by Eileen Friday 24 October, 2008 02:59 PM
The media should keep him out of the news. I'm sick of hearing about him, especially since the brownlow medalist had to take a back seat to him! Its the papers that are prejudice towards him. NO MORE BEN COUSINS - his associates are on the wrong side of the law anyway

Ben Cousins:
No, he has already proven that he has no respect for anyone or anything...all i can see is that he needs the money to feed his habit.
Posted by liza Thursday 23 October, 2008 12:36 PM
I think the eagles should give ben another chance. He was there when we won the flags. He helped us now its our turn to help him.
Posted by Gail Thursday 23 October, 2008 06:53 AM
I agree with Mel 20/10 As an Eagles supporter would love 2 have him back but as a human being and the father of 2 hope he gets through it
Posted by gary paterson Wednesday 22 October, 2008 11:09 PM
Ben Cousins: Sure he is a talented player but he is only a football player not a Noble Peace Prize recipient...Who cares what he does?
Posted by TDM Wednesday 22 October, 2008 03:34 PM
Love him...want him to make a come back and prove all u haters wrong!!
Gooo Ben.
Posted by Jen Wednesday 22 October, 2008 01:10 PM
Here we go again. I am sick of hearing the name Cousins over and over again. I don't give a dam about a person who does drugs when he should be setting an example to young kids.
Posted by wendy Wednesday 22 October, 2008 12:53 PM
Ben who!!!!!!!!!!
Get over it, he had his chance at a good life and he f***ed it up. Move over and give another upcoming (younger) guy his chance. Maybe some young guys who want a break in the sporting field will learn something from this, it's about time there were harder penalties for all of them. They know they are in the spotlight and they know that others look up to them.
Posted by Ann Duthie Monday 20 October, 2008 11:29 PM
i wonder? if ben cousins played for collingwood and got caught using drugs would it have been such a big deal. Proberbly not. What about Didak and what happened, he lied to the afl, collingwod lied to the afl and he kept on playing football.
Ben the reson you were draged through the mud is not because you are a drug user(like most of the AFL, thats why they wont bring in compulsory drug testing) but because you played for the Eagles and used drugs.
Posted by ADRIAN Monday 20 October, 2008 12:24 PM
The fact that so many people are even writing in this blog goes to show you the sort of attention BEN still gets. As an Eagles fan - I love him, as a footy fan in general - I think he is a brilliant player. As a Mother - I feel for Ben and his family. Nobody wants to go through what they are all going through - and certainly not in the public eye with every man and his dog wanting to put their 'two cents worth in'. I am sure we don't all the facts - and niether do we have a right to. I hope Ben plays football again (would love to see him in the blue and gold) but more than anything - I hope Ben gets himself well and drug free - it will be a lifelong challenge. All the best to him and his family.

Collingwood or any AFL club in the market for a player, not just Junkie Ben, have every right to persue all avenues to protect their investment. Half the jobs you go for these days require a D&A test. What is all the rubbish about Ben being innocent, he admits it himself. Yes I am a Collingwood supporter and born and live in WA, but am always loyal. Why swap when something attractive comes along. It's bad enough that Collingwood has to put up with a "SURFER" like Malthouse, we(I) don't want Cousins.

When will a known drug addict stop being news headlines on radio and in the press. Surely there are more important things that are news worthy. Who cares where he goes until it actually happens. Stop the pathetic persistent idolizing of a pathetic drug user!!!
Posted by Lee Saturday 18 October, 2008 11:28 AM
I must agree with Douglas. anything that keeps him away from my beloved Collingwood is a GR8 thing. In my opinion, the bloke is a druggie. All this crap going down is brought on by himself. He has had so many chances from Eagles. I am fed up with hearing about POOR BENNY & how he is getting a raw deal. My heart bleeds. The bloke chose the path he has taken. He can play footy YES but there are alot of better players out there. Stop makng excuses for the bloke. Then maybe he'll just quietly go away.
Posted by Magpie Saturday 18 October, 2008 09:03 AM
BEN COUSINS should be left alone, let him get on with his life, let him play football with another team (as long as it is not GEELONG) some drug addicts can and have turned their life around and gone onto living a productive life. So all you knockers of Ben Cousins need to look around your own families and I really hope that none of your family members are not doing the same. (drugs etc.,)
The media needs to back off and pick on someone else
Posted by Maureen Saturday 18 October, 2008 08:29 AM
Hello well basically Ben Cousins is one of the greatest AFL players and i hope he does return. But for now lets just leave Ben Cousins alone so he can focus on getting better
Posted by Nathan Moir Friday 17 October, 2008 06:20 PM
yes the eagles give ago because he was inocent before proven guilty that should never have sacked him theyshould of have waited for police evedince but no he should be left alone
Posted by jannine weeks Friday 17 October, 2008 05:34 PM
The Police Commissioner in Victoria should not have been involved in any way and Collingwood should have known better. I hope Ben goes to another club and gets his life back.
Ben deserves a second chance and less of the media

i dont agree what the media is doing to him he is only human what if he wasn't a football player no the police should never got involved let him get on with football career he made one silly mistake which he has paid the price now its time to leave me alone if iwas him stuff u all out there saying he deserves everything he gets how many of u made mistake in your life
Posted by jannine weeks Friday 17 October, 2008 05:21 PM
Why are Victorian police involved?
Ben has already said there are no guarantees and he is just doing his best, why do West Coast have to have so many sanctions in place if he had come back to play with us yet eastern state clubs would not have them if Ben were to regress.Perhaps if he were the son of these not so kind hearted people who say he deserves all he gets they might think differently. Please just leave him alone or say something positive to help.
Posted by denni pamment Friday 17 October, 2008 04:05 PM
All self inflicted. I have no sympathy for him.
Posted by Suzi Friday 17 October, 2008 03:12 PM
Whatever it takes to keep him away from Collingwood, sounds like a good thing to me!!
Posted by Douglas Baker Friday 17 October, 2008 02:54 PM
Seeing that Ben himself volunteered that he had a problem and wanted to do something about why are we crucifying him so much. What about all the others in sport that have been caught lying about their use of drugs. Leave Ben alone, give him a chance to prove that he is a great footballer and that he wants to play the game. He knows the consequences if he gets caught using so MEDIA get the hell out of his life and let him be.
Posted by Marie Friday 17 October, 2008 02:53 PM
What 'poor guy'??? He loves all the attention, when it suits him. All of his 'medical problems' have been self inflicted, and as a 'high profile sportsperson', who gets paid mega bucks for kicking a ball around, he must expect some kind of media attention related to his drug abuse. He's brought it all on himself - I have no sympathy for him whatsoever! I put it all down to arrogance, delusions of grandeur, and too much money/not knowing what to do with it.
Posted by Suzi Friday 17 October, 2008 02:22 PM
I like his footy. I miss seeing Ben bursting throught the mid-field and firing a pass into the forward line to set up a goal for West Coast. I guess those days are over now. Granted, the role model issue is real, but it seems a shame that being a great player is not enough these days. Are we expecting to much?
Posted by Steve Friday 17 October, 2008 02:21 PM
In my opinion, He's a DRUG ADDICT who hangs out with BIKIES and thinks hes above the law. Why did PERTH applaud him at that last eagles game i do not understand (showing our kids that it is acceptable behaviour) and then when he got arrested and ran from the Police there were no charges .... PERTH still supported him then after a (laughable) 2 week recovery in the US ... when clearly he was not over it and he still had not faced up to it he cockily taunted police and the media.
When he's cured cancer or done something productive for the Perth community or actually helps someone else (other than himself) we should get behind him... for god sake he kicks a ball around an oval and gets paid very well to do it... PERTH GET OVER IT!
Posted by bob Friday 17 October, 2008 02:15 PM
i think every one should mind there own dam buisness. what goes on with ben is bens buisness,no one elses.
that stupid bitch should keep her mouth shut. ben is trying his hardest to put the past behind him ,let him do that.
you only have to look at the help he is doing with cris mainwarings children to see that.
love ya ben ,allways will ,just wish you would come back to the eagles

Regardless, Ben is a super athlete and a superb football player...I believe he was set up over here in the West but that's my personal opinion and I think the Eagles SUCK for not having faith in him. In saying that I'd rather support St Kilda than the Pies.....
Good luck to Ben.
Posted by Sharon Friday 17 October, 2008 02:06 PM
Ben Cousins should have been retained by the Eagles. The group of eunuchs, calling themselves management, panicked when he was pulled over by the police in 2007. They totally ignored the fact that they were also responsible for Ben's plight and sought to divorce themselves from any blame. Ben is sick - a victim of society and legal leniency in dealing with drug dealers and the like. For those still calling for his head, I wonder if they would feel the same if he was their son, brother or the like. Bet not. Will he play AFL again? I doubt it but, hopefully, I am wrong.

I'm with you Michelle - leavet he poor guy alone
Posted by Grace Friday 17 October, 2008 11:17 AM
I wonder if anyone else would get so much media coverage....suddenly anyone who has anything to do with drugs...either using them, selling them or manufacturing them....gets a mention in the media as being a "friend" of Ben Cousins. If Ben does play footy again, will he need to take a daily drug test to prove that he's not using again!!! At the end of the day, either let him play or don't bother signing him up. Enough of the media coverage...there has been enough about Ben Cousins to last a lifetime...by the way...when is his book due out !!!
