What song should I play?
Posted by Shane Monday 20 October, 2008 02:18 PM
I've decided that it's time for me to finally learn the guitar. I've been wanting to learn for ages, and I've set myself a challenge of playing a song for The Big Couch before the end of our year.
So, I'm wanting to know what song I should learn and play. Any ideas? It has to be:
- Simple
- Involve as few chords as possible
- No bar chords please!
- Something the fans will love. No Achy Break Heart here!
Let me know. What song should I play?

Shane - Hope you had a great time onstage, you were certainly rocking from where I was sitting (onstage, in the drummers chair!) NOW you know how its done in the musicians World - with minimal rehearsals and maximum confidence! We'd love to welcome you back onstage anytime you feel up to task! It was a great experience for us as much as you! All the best, buddy!

Starman by David Bowie

Hi Shane what about Stairway to Heaven.
I can remember my son learning the guitar and I think that was the 1st song
he ever learnt to play and one that could actually recognise.
Good luck
Maureen.

Ode to Joy - coz it's really easy and needs few chords.
Shane - at least you're having a go.

I think as a learner the fastest song to pick up would be Good Riddence (time of your life) by Greenday. Great acoustic number, simple chords, crowd pleaser and fun with a few beers!! Persevere with the finger pain while learning, takes a month to get over. Good luck mate!!

Tears from Heaven - only if you can play it like Eric Clapton.

Im goin through the same thing (learning guitar).
U want easy and very few chords??(and im guessing u r using an acoustic?)
Start with medium or light strings...they will b easier to play!!
"Horse with no name" has 2 chords but the strumming pattern is very catchy or "Leaving on a Jet Plane" or "brown eyed girl"
I started with them and I still go back to them for warmup each time I pick up my guitar.
Good luck and stick with it (ur fingertips will toughen up in a few days but expect PAIN 4 the 1st week)
