Your Favourite 2007 TV Show?

Posted by Stephen Sunderland Monday 10 December, 2007 11:20 AM

With the official ratings season coming to an end much analysing goes on about what worked and what didn’t. This annoys me sometimes because if a show doesn’t rate it’s deemed to be a failure which we know isn’t true. Often it just hasn’t appealed to the masses that are needed to attract advertisers because after all television is a business.

Beowulf: A Legend Brought To Life!

Posted by Stephen Sunderland Tuesday 4 December, 2007 06:49 AM

A few years ago Robert Zemeckis directed a film called The Polar Express. The story suited his new technique perfectly. It was called performance capture where real actors perform their roles with a myriad of digital sensors attached to their faces and bodies. The performance is then fed into a computer and the result is an animated feature like no other. It’s not cartoony at all.

Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End on DVD

Film makers usually get ideas from three main sources, novels, plays and life experience although life is probably where authors get the ideas for novels and plays! Occasionally someone will take an eight minute poem and make The Man from Snowy River or a theme park ride and make a trilogy that grosses over $2.5 billion dollars worldwide.

Jimmy Smits Back on TV

Posted by Stephen Sunderland Wednesday 21 November, 2007 03:05 PM

Jimmy Smits is back on our TV screens and I think that’s a good thing. I can remember his appearance from early in his television career. First there LA Law where he played Victor Sifuentes and without fail my wife wpu;ld make the same comment every week “Now there’s a man who knows how to wear a suit!” He later starred in NYPB Blue for four seasons and seemed to raise the bar just a little. In my opinion the show was always good. And most recently in one of my favourite shows ever he played presidential candidate Matt Santos in The West Wing.

The Heartbreak Kid

I think Ben Stiller is an acquired taste and just when I think he’s won me over along comes a movie that doesn’t quite deliver. That’s The Heartbreak Kid. It’s a remake of the 1972 film, which I can remember, and starred Cybil Shepherd and Charles Grodin – who’s he - well he last starred in the Beethoven movies, the ones about the St Bernard dog not the composer!
