In an editorial about gay marriage, he talked about how far we've come (as well we should have) and how we're finally making progress in officially recognising (so-called) "same-sex couples"; and he pointed out the fact that you can't deny a whole section of society the right to be married; then turn around and set up a system where entitlements to do with superannuation, tax and social security can often be determined by marital status..
In addition to that ( extremely good by the way) point , he gently reminds the reader that one need not concern oneself about (gay) marriage, unless one is gay oneself, and indeed looking to be married!! .. Otherwise, mind your own beeswax because it doesn't affect you!!!

There's just one commandment that I like to live by .."Thou shalt mind thy own business".. Never you mind what the people next door are doing.. As long as it's not encroaching upon your life in any way, then it's not a problem is it?? And as for the debate over whether the word "marriage" should apply to 'same-sex' unions, WHO CARES!!!!!!

Call it 'a marriage', call it a 'union' , you can call it ' do you wanna go round with me' for all I care.. It doesn’t matter WHAT we call it, as long as we can all DO it..

Just remember .. Sticks and Stones can break my bones, but gay marriage will never hurt me....

It seems, however, that something has changed of late.. The bargain has lost some of its gloss.. 'finding' the bargain just doesn't seem as exciting any more, and I think it's all because of this new retail industry trend in how we 'do' the bargain.

The aforementioned scenario isn't the same when you have to explain how your 'bargain' will eventually, down the track, in due course, be a price you couldn't resist, and thus, I guess, a bargain..

At first I wondered whether it was wise to reveal the location of something that had been going on, unbeknown to most us, quite nicely for quite some time, before realising they were doing it to try to bring attention to just how vulnerable this incredible stretch of coast is.

I was stunned to learn Camden Sound and its surrounding area is not protected, when you consider that right around Perth all manner of derelict dumps are being Heritage Listed quite regularly.. Or the one where they edit together different news grabs to make the Opposition Leader look dopey.. And so on, and so forth.

Look, really, who writes this stuff?? No,really, is this helpful? is it productive? is it informing us, or is it just, quite frankly, insulting us?

Aren't we owed something a little more highbrow? Deciding which box on the ballot to tick this weekend, is after all, quite serious business, and instead of wasting everyone's time (and money) putting out these ad's where they concentrate on disparaging each other for various past indiscretions or failures, shouldn't they be telling us about their own party, and exactly why we should elect to put our faith in them??

The legislators made a big mistake many years ago when they decided to limit the capacity of motorcycles for inexperienced riders to 250cc for "road safety reasons". The fact that this ridiculous law is still in effect proves they just don't get it even after more than 25 years. Why? Because all the motorcycle manufacturers did is design and build 250cc bikes that could do 200kph. Technology will always outflank weak legislation unless it's thought through properly.

The only way technology can't get ahead is if the limitations are not on the model or capacity of the bike or car, but on it's power to weight ratio. There could be no excuses either if every year as the rego renewal was sent out it stated whether this vehicle was a 'P plate friendly' vehicle or not. Bit of homework, but that's always involved if you intend to do things properly.

As for the statement that no link has ever been established between the power of a car and accidents and the road toll. Well, if there was no link between power and accidents and the road toll what are we doing with a 250cc capacity on motorcycles for the first year? Car drivers don't lose control of powerful vehicles? Rubbish! Of course they do!

If anyone in their right mind stands up and says there is no difference between Johnny from Joondalup driving a Hyundai Excel and an HSV ute they need to book themselves into the nearest mental health facility for a major work over. (It's called common sense, something our legislators and committee members tend to get along without most of their public funded lives)

The power to weight ratio restrictions would also, when it comes to motorcycles, free up the buyer to ride other models that are up to 500cc's in capacity that would be just as safe and in some circumstances safer than high performance 250cc machines.

Whether it's Labor / Liberal / The Greens or the Party for the Salvation of old Eagles Beanies, whoever you are......If you're going to do it....do it properly and don't waste our money, time and young peoples lives.

(By the way if you're wondering. I've worked in the motorcycle industry, owned 29 large capacity motorcycles, had a licence for more than 33 years, ridden across Australia and back many times and written on and tested cars and motorcycles for mediums including TV.)

On the one hand, we had pictures of a Qantas jumbo jet sporting a hole the size of Tasmania in it, declaring "Terror at 29-thousand feet". Having seen enough episodes of Air Crash Investigation to know I'd 'see your terror' and 'raise it two scared to deaths', I can't even imagine just how frightening that must have been for everyone on board..

On the other hand, the continuing saga over who should lead the WA Liberal party with the declaration that bringing back Colin Barnett would (in the event of an election that day) "unleash a tidal wave of support and sweep the Libs to victory". This sensational unleashing of tidal wave-esque sweeping is based on, by the way, the snap poll picks of a whopping 400 people. Am I alone in feeling a little underwhelmed?

More importantly it raises the question I so often find myself asking when it comes to the extensive coverage given to the goings-on in Opposition - Who Cares? No really, right now they're not the ones in charge, and until and if they are, why do we spend more time focussing on them, than we do on the lot we actually elected!
